About ISAMA

What the association exists to do

The Independent Schools Association of Malawi (ISAMA) is the national body for independent and private schools. It speaks for members to the Ministry of Education on inspection, licensing, and the conditions schools need in order to operate well.

Mission

To raise the standard of independent schooling in Malawi by uniting professionally run campuses, publishing a trustworthy membership register, and helping school leaders manage with the same discipline they expect in the classroom.

Value to Malawi

Solutions for the independent education system

A united voice to the Ministry of Education

ISAMA represents independent and private schools when inspection, licensing, and policy decisions are made — so campus leaders are not speaking alone.

Professional standards that parents can trust

Membership signals a commitment to qualified teaching staff, sound management, and quality education across Malawi’s independent school sector.

A public, verifiable membership register

Families, partners, and government can confirm a school’s standing by name or certificate number against the official ISAMA register.

Professional development and conferences

Members learn from one another — directors, head teachers, and administrators — on governance, teaching quality, and running a school well.

Support through inspection and licensing

ISAMA helps independent schools understand Ministry expectations and present themselves as professionally run institutions.

Modern school management with School Sphere

New members are invited onto School Sphere so fees, enrollment, results, and staff sit in one system — the same platform that holds the ISAMA register.

  • Official membership certificate, issued after payment is verified
  • Listing on the national ISAMA register that anyone can check
  • Representation to the Ministry of Education on inspection and licensing
  • A professional standard that reassures parents and partners
  • Access to association briefings, conferences, and peer networks
  • A recommended path onto School Sphere to run the school with less paper

How membership works

01

Request membership

Tell ISAMA about your school. If you are not yet on School Sphere, register there first so the association can process your application against a real campus record.

02

Complete requirements and pay

ISAMA sends the membership checklist and a proof-of-payment form. Pay the fee, upload the receipt, and wait for verification.

03

Receive your certificate

Once approved, your school receives a professional membership certificate. Anyone can verify the number or the school name on this page.

Public register

Verify a school or certificate

Parents, partners, and schools can check standing against the official ISAMA database.

Membership request

Ask ISAMA to consider your school

ISAMA membership is processed on School Sphere — the operating system for independent schools in Malawi. Register your campus to apply, keep fees and enrollment in one place, and download your certificate when it is issued.

Run the school on School Sphere

New schools should create a School Sphere campus first. That gives ISAMA a real school record, and it gives your directors fees, enrollment, results, and staff in one place.
